TEPHI is pleased to offer a no-cost certificate program designed for those interested in learning more about and participating in pandemic public health efforts. This online, self-paced certificate program is offered through the Texas Public Health Training Center and covers the various fundamentals of pandemic preparedness and response, including understanding potential pathogens and how they are detected.
The certificate, launched in spring 2022, is designed for public health personnel who have not received formal training in public health and for people interested in learning more about and participating in pandemic preparedness. This program includes four asynchronous online courses and a capstone exercise.
TEPHI has developed a certificate program in pandemic preparedness and response. The certificate, launched in spring 2022, is designed for Public Health and Healthcare professionals, community change agents, and any Texas resident interested in preparedness. All courses are offered online.
There are four courses in the certificate program, plus a capstone tabletop exercise. If you have already taken an epidemiology course, you can choose not to take the certificate program’s 1st course, Fundamentals of Epidemiology. All participants are required to take courses 2-4, and complete the Capstone tabletop exercise, to achieve successful completion of the certificate program. Courses are offered simultaneously, and are meant to be taken asynchronously. We anticipate 1 – 1.5 years to complete the certificate program.

Texas residents with at least a high school diploma are eligible to sign up for this course.
The courses are offered free of cost and e-textbooks are provided.

It is estimated that you will spend approximately four hours each week for 16 weeks. You will be able to take courses at your own pace and participate at whatever time of day suits your schedule.
Courses are offered at the undergraduate level. There will be Knowledge Checks at the end of every module to ensure that participants have mastered the material.
